Use ChatGPT To Level Up Your Recruiting Genius!

Use these juiced up prompt frameworks to get more of your day back.

Yes! AI made the image on my thumbnail and I thought it was hilarious. What do you think?

In our first issue of Recruiting with Dynamite, I'm excited to talk about what Generative AI is, its capabilities, and provide you 3 juiced up prompting frameworks to use today. Feel free to skip down if you are only here for the prompts 🙂.

Before we begin, I want to thank all of you who've subscribed and are a part of the very first 'Recruiting with Dynamite' Newsletter. This and what's to come has been something I've been pushing off for years, but now, it feels like it’s more of a purpose than a desire.

That’s because, many of our fellow recruiters are struggling in this challenging economy. We are by far the most impacted per capita. That’s why it's crucial that we help each other, provide guidance, tips and lend support to those in need. Kindness matters. So my only ask is that if you find this useful in any way, please share it with anyone struggling and let's elevate our field.

With that, let's continue.

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Jasper, and Textio have been popping up like mushrooms after a rainstorm! There is a fear that this cutting-edge technology is so advanced that it will take away our jobs. The truth is, it might...

I’m kidding…

,

Anyway, hopefully we can steer you away from some of the uncertainty and fear. Instead, we aim to inspire you to jump onto what I think is going to be the biggest modern tech shift in business and our daily lives.

What is it?

Generative AI is a tool that can create things on its own through prompts provided by the user. Currently, products like ChatGPT and Midjourney are the ones getting all the buzz for their ability to create stories, write essays, and generate original art. However, the use cases are much broader than that.

In the world of recruitment, it can help us find the right candidates for a job. This is done by analyzing resumes, creating engaging email copy, writing inclusive job descriptions, generating questions to ask for a new role and so much more.

It's like having a personal assistant that helps you do your job faster and better. But, keep in mind that it is only as good as the user and the information you give it.

Today, I'm focusing on ChatGPT since it has a free version that you can test out before you pay for the premium services.

Many of you may be locked out of the system due to capacity issues. DON’T WORRY! I’ve got you 👍🏾

At the end of the newsletter, I'll show you a workaround that can give you more immediate access.

Generative AI’s Capabilities

ChatGPT is only as good as its users, their imagination and their inputs. ChatGPT isn't able to generate the highest-quality email campaigns with simple prompts like "write an email recruiting a Site Reliability Engineer". It will create a generic email that will be useless.

The more descriptive and directive you are in the prompt, the better your output will be.

The prompts act like a chat thread (hence the name ChatGPT). Every new chat is a brand new thread. And in each thread the program can continue to reference the subject matter at hand.

Think of yourself as a 5 year old questioning how clouds are formed, then seeking clarification and ultimately a way to make your own cloud in your home. The string of prompts is really what makes it such an effective tool.

ChatGPT is adept at gathering and synthesizing data, but it is limited to public knowledge up to 2021. Also, it is creative in a scary way, but it may not always give you the most compelling outputs when it comes to copywriting.

It is also possible to compensate for some of these issues by providing the AI with previously written copy, code, and Excel CSV files.

3 Use cases and prompts to use

Now the fun part! I had so many prompts ready for you but I narrowed it down to 3.

These examples will show you how to use it for creating targeted job descriptions, unique candidate cold emails, and interview prep for that first call. Don't let this limit you though!

You can continue adding prompts in the same thread to create multistep email sequences, write interview requests, prep documents, offers, welcome emails, 30 day check ins and so much more.

If you want me to send you some of these additional prompts, let me know.

Writing a job description

I hate writing JD’s but I try my best to create highly compelling pieces of collateral that will make candidates excited and my clients thrilled about how I represent them. ChatGPT does the heavy lifting for me so I can focus on getting to my candidates.

Prompts

"Act like a recruiter who works for [interesting accomplishment] called [blank], we are [compelling company description]. We are looking to hire a [title] who has experience similar as this profile, [profile link]. Write a job description that would cater to this experience in the voice of [persona]. Emphasize the experience [key goal of the role]. Add [sprinkle some spice]”

The "act like a recruiter" part of the prompt is a frame of reference that gives the AI some direction about who is providing the information. The descriptors will help drive the detail that you want in your intro statements to get a candidate excited. Adding a voice you would like it to emulate helps with word selection and style. Another way to do this is by referencing the personality type you are targeting. For example "write a job description for someone who is highly analytical and numbers driven".

Writing a cold candidate email

This is by far the most common use case in my current stack. But again, it's not just about accepting whatever it gives you. Get used to generating and iterating. Take what you like and scrap what you don't.

This is why AI is only able to be as good as its users and their imagination.

In the same thread you created the job description, you can include a link to an ideal candidate.

Basic email prompt

"Write a personalized cold email to this profile [attach link] based on this description and add a bit of humor."

It will be alright, but probably not all that great. It also won't sound like you.

This is where we need to have it create multiple version and pull what you like and/or train the AI to be better by giving it data (past successful emails).

Prompt for subject line

A simple example of training the AI would be a prompt that looks like this

"I had a highly successful open rate with this email subject line"[paste subject line]". Please analyze the job description and create 5 similar subject lines that will make someone interested and laugh a bit"

Side Note: I don’t know why I’m saying “please” to a robot, but I digress.

Prepare for an interview

Let's face it, sometimes we get roles we are not accustomed to. Having a research assistant to give us some questions to ask and what to look for is really helpful.

Prompts

"Create a list of high level interview questions to ask candidates for this role"

ChatGPT is down. How do I get free access?

ChatGPT has been having a scaling issue forcing new users on the waitlist. Occasionally, it even crashes for current users. To get around this, you can also sign up for OpenAI's Playground app. It's the same thing as ChatGPT, just not in a chat thread format. Sign up for Playground here: https://beta.openai.com/playground.

Conclusion

So as you can see, AI is not here to take your job, but instead will be an invaluable assistant to make your job easier. The key to using these tools is your input. How you use it will generate your own unique results. So play around with it, have fun and experiment. I'd love to hear about any cool things you discover along the way. Please reach out and tell me... Let's learn together.
